Hi, I’m Jamie – one of the two moms behind Fans of Being a Mom. Meredith and I are years (and years!) away from empty nests, but we often get a little verklempt just thinking about what it will be like when our little ones are a bit more grown up, never mind out on their own.
This video is something we’ve shared on the FoBaM Facebook page before, but in case you missed it (and feel like a good cry), here is Katrina Kenison reading from her book “The Gift of an Ordinary Day.” I had the pleasure of meeting Katrina last fall when she spoke at a retreat in Boston. She is as kind and gentle in real life as in her books, and she didn’t leave a dry eye in the house that day.
Once a mother, always a mother, even when the fledglings have flown. At least we can always look back and treasure the memories of the small moments we shared.

I love Katrina’s blog…it is amazing! As a mom of a 17 year old with 1 year left in high school and a 14 year old, I am realizing that in a short time, I will be saying goodbye to my first born and yes, I need the kleenex! Everything that Katrina blogs about regarding letting your children go and embracing what was and now what is rings so true! How lucky for you that you had the opportunity to meet her!

@Kathy – Katrina is at least as lovely in real life as she is in her writing. I am not as close as you to seeing my little one leave the nest, but I can still work up a tear just thinking about it. A mother’s love runs so deep – having to watch our children walk away tears at our hearts even while it makes us burst with pride.
