How Do You Handle the Holidays?
Posted on December 8, 2009 by FoBaM-Jamie
I have always had a soft spot for Norman Rockwell, but this picture makes me want to resurrect the man and hug him. It so perfectly encapsulates, for me, a typical day during the Christmas rush (the apt title for this painting). The man truly knew how to capture the essence of a moment.
No matter which holiday you celebrate, the rush of the season is bound to bring its share of stress, strife, and surprises. Whether you’ve planned your holiday to the very last detail, or are trying for the “winging it” zen thing; I have yet to meet a person (never mind a mom) whose holidays routinely go off without a hitch. Though this time of year is undeniably full of magic and joy, it is also – just as undeniably – full of nasty little speed bumps that can send your holiday train careening into a ditch.
We’re wondering how you handle the holidays. There’s no right or wrong, and your answer might change from year to year. Not to be a Grinch, but my favorite day of the holiday season is the day after – no more lists, relative quiet, no house guests, and kids who are happily entertained.
So, what do you think? Which one are you?

I love Christmas and most all other Holidays, but I think that it is incredibly sad that Parents are going so over the top with Christmas. So many people are forgetting what this holiday is really about. It is too bad!! And not to mention when you go to the stores for gift shopping and people are so incredibly RUDE. You would think that this season out of all of them people would be a little bit more friendly. It worries me to know that it will only get worse and my children have to suffer from that. What ever happened to Love thy neighbor?
I do enjoy the holidays and even more since we have a daughter now, this year though for some reason I just feel bbllaahh! It is hard cause it is a sad reminder or who is not here, my father and an older sister have passed but really bugging me this year. We have a tree up and our fence is decorated so cute but something is just missing for me
Enjoy your Christmas!!!
at times i feel the same and i am missing people that have years ago passed. hang in there and know that they are with you always…
i too used to go over board with Christmas… now, its just about getting thru the day and wondering why i still cant shop myself silly! i have 3 kids at various stages in life: 21, 17, and 3… i feel like i’m cheating the 2 older ones because the 3 yr old is learning about the holidays now…
I KNOW THE FEELING I HAVE A 19 YR.OLD AND WE STARTED ALL OVER , 6,5 & 4. I AM REALLY TRYING, BECAUSE THEY ARE SOOOO LITTLE AND IT IS ALL BRAND NEW TO THEM ! : )
HANG IN THERE IT WILL ALL WORK OUT.
I used to dread the season and all of the duties that went along with it. But ever since I had a son, I love it. I put up our tree a week before Thanksgiving so Jonas would have more time to enjoy it. And we’ve been listening to Christmas music every day. I hope you can all find the joy within your lives this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
I have always found magic at Christmas. It is the day that we celebrate Jesus’ birth…how amazing is that, not to mention getting to spend a holiday with your family. I know that many of you are missing loved ones this year, but try to enjoy the ones still left. I too have lost. Maybe there is a magic in the fact that it causes us to remember that life is precious and that we should embrace those around us even tighter. So, to all of you, I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas and may Peace surround you wherever you may go.
