Giveaway: Cute board books!
Posted on August 25, 2011 by FoBaM-Jamie
There’s something about board books that we find irresistable. Maybe it’s their chunkiness or their sturdy construction, their easy-to-turn pages, or the way they double as teethers for little ones. Or, maybe we love them so much because they are our children’s first exposure to the joys of books and reading. They help little ones take their first literary steps as they open the doors to a world of exploration and learning.
Whatever our reasons, we are board book junkies and we’re not ashamed to admit it. Even though our own children have outgrown these durable reads, we still fall for them every time. Today, we’ve got two new Candlewick titles to share with you: I like toys and I like vegetables. These are board books with a slight twist. In addition to all the usual goodness, they feature touch-and-feel details that will have tiny fingers roaming the pages while bright eyes are taking in the bright pictures.
In I like vegetables, curious kids learn not only about produce, but about opposites like above and below, inside and outside, and so forth. Not only that, but you can start getting your kids excited about eating carrots, corn, and peas. (It’s never too early to start, right?)
In I like toys, the focus is on shapes. As little fingers touch different textures in the images, mommy can explain about circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. Each spread features one large image and then two smaller images – all of which are labeled. The square pages feature images of blocks, a jack-in-the-box, and a book.
GIVEAWAY: Would you like your very own copies of these two great, little board books? The nice folks at Candlewick Press are giving us five sets to giveaway to our readers. For a chance to win one of these sets, just enter your comment below and tell us what you like about board books or about your favorite board book. You have until midnight tomorrow (Friday, August 26th) at which time we’ll choose 5 random winners. Good luck and happy reading!

My little guy who is 14 months old absolutely loves board books…he’s always carrying them around the house either looking at the pictures inside or using them to get his teeth to pop through…they’re great for him!
I love how indestructible they are, with my kids they need to be!!
My daughter loves board books because she can look at them over and over again and they don’t fall apart.
I love how i can give my toddler a board book and not cringe/worry of ripped pages each time she flips the page. it’s an educational “toy” that she loves “reading” to her dolls.
Would love to win these books for my girls!
My favorite board book is Goodnight Moon because I would read it out loud to my son when I was pregnant with him. He is now 4 months old and everytime I bring it out, he smiles and loves looking at it. I think he remembers it from when he was in my belly!
My son loves the “I spy” board books. He loves to identify all the different things hidden in the pictures.
Board books are wonderful for my 2 young children as they can sometimes be a little to rough on paper books!

One of my favorite times with her is when we sit on my bed all cuddled up and she babbles along ‘reading’ her book while I read a novel!
Would love to get some books for my son! We love to read together!
We love board books in our home. Not only are they cute and colorful, but they are almost indestructible! My young kids cannot rip or tear the pages by being too rough with them, and they get to enjoy holding the book and turning the pages themselves.
I love board books because they can handle the child, especially when the child doesn’t handle the books very well.
I love the board book “Goodnight Gorilla.” My kids love when their Dad reads it to them because he points out the balloon and moon in all the pictures. He also taps his fingers across the board book to emphasis the animals following the zoo keeper home.
after being a single Mom for 21/almost 22 years and doing childcare for over 150 children from other families-I can almost guarantee that I am an official voice on the subject of things that are lasting and that bring out the uniqueness of children. This type of board book does just that and it is lasting for many to share and enjoy. These things I know from life experience and I have just the kids who would love to be in ownership of them. Thanks for the opportunity to state this comment.
My kids love board books! I have 3 children and I think that their favorite activity is sitting with a nice chunky board book!

I love board books because they are educational and my little boy can not pull the pages out! We love to read at our house.
We absolutely love board books. My 27 month old wakes up and says “lets read” before he says anything else. The sturdier the better at this point, and board books are definitely that! His favorite one right now is “If You Were My Bunny” which is a book full of songs about mommy animals and their babies. Very cute.
My boys would LOVE these books, not to mention they would be a great addition to our homeschool curriculum!!!
We adore chunky board books here in our home. Out of our four children, we have a four year old that is a special needs child and loves to read board books as part of his therapy. He can be rough with the “pages” and we don’t have to worry about him tearing them up!
I don’t know what it is about board books but my kids love them! My 20-month-old I understand, but my 4-year-old loves them too! These look really cute too!
I love board books because they are so durable. I am reading the same ones to my 3 year old that we read to our 10 year old when she was little. Our favorites by far? Goodnight Moon and Hush Little Alien!
Board books are a precious and easy way to prepare my children to not only read but love reading. They are durable and withstand the tough love that my children have for them. Quite possible the favorite in our house is Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
I love how durable the boards books are, my kids love to carry them around and take them with us, especially in the car!!

My 16 month old son loves to read board books with his big sister (who is 4). I love how they can’t rip the book even while they are enthusiastically flipping the pages together.
I would love for these to be the first board books for my first grand baby that is due in February! I plan on reading to him/her as much as I read to my children.
My son is 18 months and he LOVES books . We first bought him a micky mouse board book about ABC’s. We thought he wouldnt be into it but he loves it! Im so glad hes into books!
I love the way my son flips through the pages and babbled out loud as if reading the book to himself. It’s so funny. I wish I was able to understand the babble.
I was givin a board book at the baby shower for my 1st daughter she is 4 now and the book is in such good shape she passed it down to her lil sister who is soon to pass it to her lil sister due sept 22!!!
Board books are the greatest! Our son loves to read them!!!
I just like that thye enable very young childrnre to enjoy books independently, encouraging a love of books and reading.
I love board books in general because of their durability! My 5 month old son loves to “eat” everything…and these fare much better than a regular thin-paper book!
My kids’ favorite board book (and mine) was a first words book with bright but simple photographs of real objects. It helped the oldest two learn to read.
Our 6 month old son’s favorite board book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar….
My son is 2 1/2 and he still loves board books! I love when he sits down in front of our bookshelf and reads them to himself. Sometimes he “reads” them out loud and sometimes he just looks at the pictures. Regardless, I love seeing him have such an interest in reading!
I believe families bond over story time. I love to watch my boys faces when I read a book with enthusiasm. They get so enthralled with the characters and what’s going to happen next. My favorite is when I hear them try to read it the same way I do.

My son Eirik is 2 years old and he LOVES all/any book he loves the pictures and he loves the touch and feel books!! He’s has learned so much from looking at these books! Good Luck EVERYONE!!! ThankYou!
I like board books because the thicker pages are easier for little fingers to turn on their own!
We love board books for their durability…you can introduce the love of reading at a very young age without books getting eaten or destroyed
Board books are priceless and timeless!
We luv board books!! They keep my boy’s attention and they luv to feel and call out the picture – we would love to be selected as winners and add to our wonderful collection!! Thank you for this offer!!
My son and I love reading board books together because he can help me turn the pages without worrying about tearing them, and he loves the vibrant colors! He’s on a feeding tube and has to sit still in a high chair for long periods of time(especailly hard for a one year old) so a lot of times I give him a couple board books to read and chew on to help pass the time. He loves it
Durability and love watching the little ones walk around with them.
my little guy (2) goes to bed with at least one board book each nap and at night – he has a little flashlight and sits and reads til he falls asleep – i love that i dont have to worry about him tearing the book up, but he is still “reading”!
We love board books!!!!! They don’t tear, & they stay nice. If they get dirty, you can just clean them with a paper towel. My 4 year old used to tear out pages in some books, so whoever made these books, is a genius!! (: (: (: (:
I like board books because they are more durable. I have 2 boys and a girl and the boys were always very rough with books and we had many torn pages in books. Girls are a little less rough but she can still tear pages when she gets excited reading books.
I love how the pages can’t rip and they are thickly enough for a little one to practice turning the pages themselves.
I love board books because they’re so sturdy they’re nearly a toy for my little ones. They’re great for reading in the car seat as entertainment and when they’re dropped on the floor there’s no worry about them getting trampled on. We don’t have a real favorite, the kids cycle through them all clinging to any certain one for a while then moving on to another.
I LOVE how long board books entertain my favorite little Guy…and knowing its something educational or just plain good for him gives me That extra boost!
Favorite thing is to hear my 20 month old say momma BOOP .. Its the only time he actually sits and cuddles with me .. i try to soak in every minute and remember hearing his first words .. Board Books are such a wonderful gift every child should have LOTS of !!
Board books are so rare these days and for my kids that is the worst. They are 3, 1 & 1/2 & 4 months & they prefer board books to any other! & so do I, just cause every other book we own is pretty niches ripped.
Board books are great because they are tough (although not impossible) to damage! We love board books at our house and would love to have these as part of our collection.
My first grandchild is turning 1 this weekend. I bought lots of board books for presents for him but would love to have a set for my house when he comes to visit which is often. Thanks so much.
We love reading to our son:)…then he “reads” to us, whatever book we both read:) Awesome giveaway!

I love kiss good night and mama where are you, my son loves board books!
I liked board books with my oldest who was a very picky eater because she could look at her books while I was sneaking some food in her mouth… and the end I could just wipe them clean if I needed to. With my youngest now I like them because they are tough enough for a little boy.
We love board books because they grow with our children. Our board books stood up to my daughter chewing, shaking, and throwing when she was a baby. As she grew, they helped her potty train, go to sleep at night, and gave mommy a few minutes of peace each day as she read to herself. We are now on baby #3, and most of our board books are still around, and our newest addition loves the stories just as much as her big brother and sister do!
I would love to win these board books to share with my little niece when she comes to visit!! My daughter is the perfect age to read them to her
They can be stepped on, thrown, chewed up, drawn on and still be enjoyed by both our kids.
I like board books because they seem to be the only books that can survive my 2 rambunctious boys. They make great bedtime stories when get to have some downtime with the boys after a long day of playing and chores, we are always ready to make a home for a new book.
Board books are beginner books to make lifetime readers& learners! There hard pages can with stand a child reading the book over and over memorizing each line as my daughter does now.

We LOVE board books! All our children have had them through the years, and they make the perfect first book! Now our (surprise!) Baby refuses to go to bed without them. We are hoping he stays a book worm, and always shows this love for books! In such a digital generation, I want my kids to love and appreciate books as I do.
Loved hard books! Durable and fun! PLUS, now that I am teaching my kids to read, these are PERFECT!

My youngest son, who is almost 18 months has a routine each night after bathtime. First of all, he’s a booger to catch because he likes to run around in his birthday suit. After we get a diaper on, get dressed, he goes over to a little basket in his room FILLED with board books. He picks out one book at a time, hands it to me, motions me to sit on the floor and we read them together. We go through about 6 or 7 each night. One of my favorite times with him.
My son loves books, period. I like board books because they can tolerate my 17 month old son… I wonder how such a small person can be so destructive!
We have two boys and most books in the house get used and abused- board books are great for us since they are durable and some of our favorites come in this hard form so they can withstand some of the abuse
I actually just gave a friend’s son “I Love Vegetables” this last weekend for his 1st birthday, such a great series, these books.
My toddlers love board books because it is easy for them to turn the pages. I love them because they are sturdy!
My 13-month-old daughter is in LOVE with books. She wants me to read them to her over and over, or all of them in a row. I love board books because she can look at them herself without destroying them. My favorite board book is called Little Blue Truck because it has a wonderful message about being nice, helping others, and having friends. My daughter loves it too because it has lots of animal sounds that she can make along with me. And we have another baby on the way that I can’t wait to start reading to!
We love board books at our house…all my 3 boys (5, 3 and 18 months) love to sit and read books…a few favorites in our house are Brown Bear, Goodnight moon & the first word type books. Board books are so durable especially with rough and tought little boys!!

My son cannot get enough books. It’s a definite plus that these books are sturdy!
I love board books and I would love to promote these two on my blog, Storytime-mom. This series is great — “I love bugs!” was so cute. My 6 month old very much enjoys eating, um, I mean “reading” these!
I love board books that are indestructible (sp?) and I love that my boys memorize them and read them back to me! I’m teaching some little readers! awwww
We read Goodnight Moon to our girls almost every night since they were born! They love reading and I believe board books made this
passion for literature occur even earlier because they made it easy for my girls to handle on their own.
My son was born moderately deaf, so we spend substantial time reading books… I particularly love board books cause then he can hold them and explore them, & him being almost 10 months old.that’s all he ever wants!! I love them!
My children currently enjoy the books of Leslie Patricelli, especially ‘Yummy Yucky’. Board books are easier for kids to handle. I know they’ll love these giveaway books too. Good Luck everyone!
Both of my kids love boardbooks! They are very durable and last while we are teaching them the proper respect for books! Our favorite one is “Goodnight Moon”
My little monkey is constantly pulling my books off the shelves, so I put board books where my easy to reach ones are so he can carry them around and “read” them
I have a new baby that is just discovering board books – and I love how indestructable they are, especially from chewing! My favorite board book to read to my first child was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” I used to read the foods he ate during the week really fast and stress the tummy ache and would flap the page at the end to act like it was the butterfly flying away……he used to giggle and laugh – great memories!
My little 16 month guy is very sensitive and loves observing all sorts of things. He has a room full of toys, but always goes straight for the books! They always make his personality come alive as he points, makes animal sounds, laughs, jumps and kisses pictures. In other settings, he prefers to suck his thumb and play with my hair, but with books, he truly expresses himself!
My 2 boys love board books too, I love them especially for the car…very durable!
I have spent many hours researching good board books that are easy to read, have good illustrations, and keep baby’s attention… And I found in this board book!!! Wonderful!

I love that our board books have been passed from one kid to the next, to the next! And, the older kids now love reading to the littlest one! They last and last!
We have 5 children and I run a daycare from my home – boardbooks are perfect for the children – big pictures, perfect size for little hands, chunky pages that last through a chewing!
My 9 month old loves books and is especially drawn to the touch and feel board books. Of course I love the sturdiness and durability of board books, but the main thing I love is at this age it is much easier for her to control a board book. She can manipulate the pages herself and it is great for her motor skill development, as well as a great to start reading readiness.
My son loves Good Night Gorilla! We have to read it every night before bed. It’s been 4 months and he’s still not tired of it
My little man is turning 2 next month and LOVES books. He is always carrying one around almost like it’s a security blanket/comfort item for him. Board books are easy for him to handle since he can turn the pages without getting frustrated or tearing them. It’s our quiet time together too which is the best part of my day.
My kids and I both LOVE board books. We read every night before bed. Board books are great for all ages and also great because there is a better chance that they will make it through more than one child.
I love board books because they can last forever!
Love the message and covers. Would love to hand down these books for generations.
My Grandson is a book lover and in my eyes the board books are the best for young readers because they are sturdy and last for a long time. I have some board books that are still around from when my kids were young and they are still in pretty good shape.
