There are few summer pleasures more luxurious than getting lost in a good book. Any time is a good time for reading, but there’s something about summer reading that’s just a bit more decadent than your average literary excursion. Summertime is the perfect time to indulge in books that help you escape the real world for a while.
Our friends at Penguin Publishing Group would like to help you (and your kids!) do just that. They have given us a wonderful mother/child book bonanza gift pack to give away to one lucky winner. The package includes six novels for you and nine picture books for your little ones.
If you’d like a chance to win this fabulous collection, just leave a comment below and tell us what reading means to you. We’ll randomly select one lucky winner at midnight EST tomorrow, Friday, July 29th.
Good luck & happy summer reading!

Awesome Giveaway! Summer reading rocks, for both me and my daughters. 2 of those Grown Up books are possibilities for my Book Club!!
Read is a relaxing release from reality.
My daughter just finished her summer reading program at our local library!:) Nothing better then seeing your kids curled up with a good book!
I have been a bookworm since I was a little girl so reading is pretty important to me. It is the main vehicle for learning, especially for my children. We all love to read and can always be found at the library or sitting at home with a book in our hands.
Reading for me; is my time alone away from family and duties, a time to relax at the end of the day, Reading to my kids; is helping them to understand the importance of alone time and watching them to learn.
Reading means family time and learning. I sit with my two boys (4 & 7) and I have my 7 year old read to me and his little brother. It makes it more fun for both boys. It’s our time to be close and still without all the other “noise” around us such as the television, video games, etc.
My kids love to read so our summer reading for school is done. But, we have read 50 books between the three of us this summer! My kids are 8 and 4 and beg to go to the library.
First time visiting this blog, Wow! Great info, thanks for sharing!
To me reading means expriencing more of the world.
I have always loved reading and I am trying to make sure my four year old does as well, that looks like a great collections of books. Ebooks are convenient but there is nothing like turning the pages of a book!
Reading to me means sitting in a nice comfy bed with my kids and lighting up their world of imagination. Just to see what some simple words do for them is one of the most important things i can ever do for them.
Reading is an escape to a place that we may never be able to go to, become a person that we thought we would like to be or see the world through someone else’s eyes. Reading creates limitless conversations between a parent and a child.
I enjoy watching my children ages: 8, 6, and 5 get excited about reading. They love to go to the library each week, pick out books, and read to me.
My daughter loves to read she is always looking amd asking for new nooks
Reading is one of my 2-year old’s most favorite things — and I love reading with her! We’re a bunch of book-aholics in this family. We’ll be heading to the beach in a few weeks and some new books “just for Mommy” would be a fabulous treat!
Reading is my escape. It lets me go places I’ll never go and see things I’ll never see. It helps me fall to sleep at night! I love to read!!!!
Reading to me is enjoyment … for myself it is my time away. My daughter loves to read her way and at 2 1/2 she makes up the best stories to go with the pictures or trys to recite what I have read to her. When she reads it makes me smile and forget about everything else.
Reading is so enjoyable its a great escape as a mom and awesome time between me and my son reading all the cute stories !!
love it
always looking for new books for my son and i to read
I learned to read when I was 3-years old. I was an only child and didn’t enjoy playing outside with the other kids. Books have always been my best and most interesting friends.
Reading is my life! I am a reading teacher for 5th and 6th graders. People associate me with books as I am always reading, recommending books to others, shopping for books, or visiting libraries. Books open doors for me to see things through the eyes of others and help me to better empathize with my students.
We are a family of readers, myself and my 4 children all love to read and take some time out everyday over the summer to enjoy getting lost in out latest book!
reading to me is a way to relax at the end of the day and lose myself into another world.
This is such a great idea! Reading is such an important part of my day with my daughter. We ALWAYS read before bed and she loves just picking up a book on her own and looking through it. Thanks for sharing the book ideas!!
Reading is so important to me. I love listening to my daughter read books from memory next to me on the couch – I love that with reading she can experience new worlds and things same as I did when I was a kid.
I love to read and so do my kids ages 3(almost 4) and 5. We try to get to the library as much as possible and I have so many books from scholastic it’s crazy! Would love to have some new additions to our home!
Reading, to us, means… EVERYTHING. Our daily escape into new, exciting, fun worlds… new words, new experiences… All while snuggled up together.
Reading keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. When the days get crazy (or crazy-boring) it’s nice to have a book to lose myself in at the end of the day. And it’s nice that I am not responsible for changing the diapers of anyone in the books I read!
I love when my 7 year old chooses to read intead of watch tv. Now he’s trying to teach his little sister (she’s 3) how to read! My favorite thing is when our whole family sits in the living room, each of us with our own book.
Not only is reading about learning but its about imagination and how reading a great book can motivate the mind and take you to so many different places for a while. Its a great feeling to put yourself in that little bubble and get swept away in a different world each time. Makes the mind work and be creative and exciting. For kids it opens up a new world with each book each time and forces them to be imaginative and creative and they love it
This would be great for us reading this summer! Reading relaxes me and is great healthy entertainment for the kids!
I love being a wife, a mommy, and a teacher. I wouldn’t change a thing…okay, maybe I’d like to be a very wealthy wife, mommy, and teacher. Reading takes me on adventures that are I wouldn’t have otherwise. It takes me to places I can’t visit and allows me to meet people I won’t meet in my classroom or on the soccer field. Reading makes the impossibe possible!
we love books! I am a book lover and I am excited that my girls (1.5yrs, 3.5yrs) are already showing a love for books as well!
I love love love reading!!! I remember moving a lot as a kid (military brat) – we always had one truck for household goods, and an entire separate truck for my parents books! Reading was always such a great thing to do with my parents, and later, myself. Now that I have two boys – I share that with them. For me as a mom, the boys being readers is as important as brushing their teeth or eating their veggies (and actually, much easier, of course….).
Reading for me is a transport from my current reality. Reading is also a comforting companion on trips far from home. Our kids now are enjoying the benefits of reading, which is delightful to watch
!
Reading is heaven…especially when I get to share it with my daughter! She devours books from the library and has almost completed their summer reading program. She is only almost 4yo, but can “read” books back to me that we have read several time. Her vocabulary is awesome
I have always loved to read. I love seeing my kids read. It would be great to win these books so that we can read even more!
Hello! I am hoping to win this awesome prize! We are a new homeschooling family of five. We have always loved curling up with some great books. Because of our tight budget, the library has been invaluable to us. Reading is an escape to far away lands or ancient places full of mysteries. When we read books together, our family is able to forget the chaos of the day and spend quality time with one another. From our newest reader (Mya 6) to our oldest (Michael 13) books have been the main form of learning, discovery, and even comfort. We would be lost without the feel of a book in our hands to take us on a new adventure!
I am a total bookworm and I am working on making my kids that way too. The have each read several books this summer or been read to.
Reading means escape to me
My family loves to read. We read together a lot and also try to act out the book to keep the kiddos interested and to have a little fun with reading.
What a great give away! This would be great for us reading this summer! Reading relaxes me and is great healthy entertainment for the kids!
Reading is a time for me to relax after a stressful day.
I enjoy reading to my daughter and teaching her new words
and of course having her read back. It’s our special time
together.
Reading for myself is an escape, relaxation and one of the few times for just me! Watching my almost 2 year old reading is one of the biggest delights of my day. Reading together is a time for bonding that helps instill knowledge in her that will last a lifetime.
When I was little my grandfather used to give all of the grandchildren a $2 bill for every book we read. After we finished the book, we would write all of the information (title, author, summary) on a notecard, tell him a little about the book and in turn he would give us a $2 bill! Thanks to him, I gained a passion for reading that has and will last my lifetime! Although today I don’t get to reap the rewards of the $2 bills, the reward now comes from reading the last page of a fantastic book and closing the cover with fulfillment.
Reading is like breathing to me, I do it every chance I get. I wish my son had the same passion for reading, but his passion is math and science.
Reading at anytime is the fundamentals of learning. I encourage my children to read often even in the summertime. They are currently involved in 2 reading challenges for the summer. They often grab books on their own and sit and read for an hour at a time. So far this summer I have read 3 novels and I’m working on number 4. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity. I would love to win it to share with my kids.
Reading takes me away! I feel like I am living somewhere fabuolous or even on a date with Mr. Right! My kids love to have me read to them. They are too young to read so they just love to cuddle up and listen to Mommy read….
We love books!
Reading is the ability for parents and children, whom so often seem to live in different worlds, to come together and share the ability of imagination to transport you anywhere! I love sharing the experience of reading a book with my kids… but just as fun is having them read a book that I LOVED as a kid and sharing our thoughts and opinions on it. It’s like a book club that has spanned over 20 (or more!) years. Such fun!!!
My boys and I are bookworms. Summer is the perfect time to read.
Reading in our house is an opportunity to experience fantastical things, to travel to places where we otherwise wouldn’t be able to, to meet new people and learn about their lives. When I’m reading on my own, it’s a time for me to decompress and take some quiet time for myself. When I’m reading with my children, it’s a time for us to spend together – to laugh and to be amazed by incredible stories.
Reading exercises the brain and the imagination. It opens the doors to possibilities and opportunities for the future. It fuels the writer in us, it fuels our fantasies, it gives us escape. It’s getting to travel the world without ever leaving your home. It brings families together. It’s means so very much to me as a teacher and a mom to see my boys pick up a book and settle down for a read, rather than plant themselves in front of a game and waste away hours. It elates me when my young boys ask to have a trip to the library. Books mean so very, very much still and their importance will never be replaced by electronics.
We love to read! Even my 14 month old will bring me a book & sit in my lap all ready to hear a book! What a great idea to give away books in the summer, Thank you!!
I love reading, and now I have a new grand-daughter to read to. Looks of great books to explore.
Our family loves to read! A book is a wonderful excuse for the 5 of us to cuddle up on the couch and escape to another world together!
Good Morning from MN! I am a lic. in home Child Care Provider and we LOVE books! This collection looks amazing and would fit right in great with the collection that we already have!
Summer reading is a time to share with my family. We all read and spend time sharing about our books. The little ones look forward to me reading to them and asking them their thoughts about favorite parts. It’s a time to get closer while enjoying new books and learning at the same time.
We are keeping up with our reading. My six year old loves the Magic Treehouse book series. They take him to faraway lands and times you can only imagine! Great summer or anytime reading.
My boys have completed the summer reading program at our library since before they could read and I was reading to them. My husband and I read to them in the womb and ever since. They have developed into book lovers at the ages of 9 and 11! I am two semesters away from graduating with my teaching degree and the children’s books here would make a great start to my classroom collection!
I love to read and so does my daughter….my son not so much. I really want him to love to read as much as I do. Reading is an escape, a chance to be someone you are not, a chance to travel, solve mysteries, and just take some peaceful time for yourself and be alone with your thoughts. It is one of the things I look forward to every evening before I fall asleep. I love laying in bed thinking about what I just read and what might happen next.
Wonderful giveaway! We love books and are always looking to add to our collection!
I love to read and my son enjoys books as well, he is 4 and we just got him is very own library card. Reading together is an enjoyment and our special bonding time. He sometimes likes to take the books and read to me! Love reading with each other. This is such a great giveaway! Good Luck to everyone! Happy Reading!
Reading is an everyday activity in my house. I have loved books as far back as I can remember and I can already tell my 3 year old feels the same way. I catch her every night sitting next to her night light reading books to herself before she actually falls asleep!
Reading is so important and I love that it opens the imaginations of anyone who participates!
What a fabulous giveaway. All 3 of my children would love these books. Plus, a great way to inspire them to read!
Reading books with my children is something we all look forward to. We snuggle up, forget about the craziness of the day, and escape into a new adventure every night.
Wow! What a generous giveaway! Reading is our common bond. Rarely do girlfriends get together without someone asking, “Hey, have you read that new book ______ yet?!?!” It’s a bond between parents and children. Every child loves to hear a familiar story read over and again. It’s a basic human right to learn to read in this country but unfortunately a privilege to surround yourself with your own books.
I’m an urban educator, and I’ve lost MANY books over the years. I was told by my mentor teacher that I should consider it the sincerest form of flattery when students steal my books from me, because clearly they’ve been touched by the written word and by me. I’d love to win these books so that my students can steal them from me.
reading is a relaxing past time. I can take a book anywhere an a book can take me anywhere.
Our family has had a very busy summer but we still find a little time each day to read. My son is 15 months old and absolutely loves books. He will sit down with a stack of books and go through everyone of them. He even goes to my bookshelf and gets my books out to look at
This would be a great gift for our family. Best of luck to everyone. Happy Summer!
As a child, reading was always very important in my house. My mom or dad would read me a story every night, and I can always remember my mom having a book in hand everytime we were hanging by the pool, or just a relaxing past time anywhere. Thanks to my mom, I have such a love for reading and my son already does too. Starting at a couple months old, I read him a book every night before bedtime. And tons of books through out the day. He is 2 now and loves to pick out what book we read that day. Not to mention being a military spouse, and a stay at home mom. I don’t get a lot of down time. Its always go go and there is always something going on. So when I get to sit down with a good book, its one of my favorite moments that day.
My 4 year old is just starting to get into letting me read to her. I have tried to many times, but she never had the attention span or the inclination to just sit and listen. Now that she is about to start pre-K she is really excited about it. My 5 year old is slowly starting to put his sounds together to make words so he still wants me to read to him, but also is trying to do a lot more on his own. Your giveaway sounds wonderful! Thanks!
I love to read and have instilled that same love of books in my daughter. There is nothing better than a new book, especially since we have read all of the kid books we have a million times! I can just picture the big smile on my daughter’s face if I told her we won new books.
Reading is a blessing to all. It allows my boys to open their imaginations and expand and explore their minds. To my family reading is a relaxation and rewarding to the spirit.
Reading is a way to escape from the world around me, which as most mothers know, is a much-needed means of keeping your sanity sometimes! It allows me to look into many other worlds and understand other people’s lives a little bit better. It also can just be a lot of laughing until I almost cry….which happens frequently if I’m reading Janet Evanovich.
To me, reading gives you a key to your own soul. As a high-school English teacher and a mom, I am always trying to teach my students and my kids that they have a special power over what they read because THEY become a part of the story as they read it. No matter what book we read, we bring our own special experiences, ideals, reflections and opinions to the encounter. It is because of what we bring to a book that changes it magically for each and every one of us. Once we realize how much we bring to reading as active participants, what we can get out of the experience becomes limitless. In this way, reading helps us learn who we are…how we think…and where our minds can go. When we read, we don’t just ESCAPE our lives for a while…we actually CREATE ourselves in very special and very real ways.
For me reading is an escape and for my children it is a whole new world of imagination.
Awesome! Reading is learning! It is fun and stimulates the imagination.
Reading is one of the most important things in mine and my boys’ lives. You can go ANYWHERE with a book! My 11 year old just went on a journey to Mars when he read Mars:Year 1. My 9 year old is just now learning about the adventures he can enjoy with books. He just began reading this past school year. Dick and Jane have become great friends to him. And, just to keep things fun I read to them too. They LOVED hearing about Sam and Frightful in My Side Of The Mountian. Books have taken me to the time of the cave men in Clan of the Cave Bear and into outerspace with Captian Picard in the book Star Trek:TNG Vendetta. I can’t imagine a world without books!
Reading to me is a time to bond as a family. We like to turn off all tv’s and other electronic devices and just focus on reading alone but still together!
I love to read and am trying to get my kids to love to read too. I work as a transcriptionist at home and I work long hours. When I’m finally able to sit down for he day and read a book, it’s so wonderful. I would be so excited to win these books.
i work full time and go to school so I know the power of me time in books. My kids love books and I’m not sure how I would keep my sanity without a good book to scoop me away..
Reading is relaxung time for me and my daughter. She loves to bring me her books and say read please I have lovrd reading since I was a kidnow I can share that love with mine
My daughter has had lots of fun so far this summer. We starting reading and when we can go to story time at the local library. She loves the pictures and at times tries to pronounce some words as I read. I try to show reading is fun to learn.
I’m à Grandma living in Sweden with daughter and granddaughter in US. My little granddaughter is soon to be two years old, and I send her lots of books in swedish. To get those books would be à good gift for her, learning two languages is hard, but she is doing very well. Her mother is very fond of readig to, so this would be à perfect summer treat.
I would love to get some new books for me and the kids. The Art of Forgetting is on my reading list already! Thanks!
Love Reading to my toddler! his mind is a sponge at this age, read him a book twice and he has is mesmerized, by the third time he’s reciting the book along with me. Always looking for new books to add to his collection.
What an awesome prize! My son and I would definitely love it. We are big readers in this house
Reading means to me, adventures of the mind that can take you anywhere. I love being able to sit down with a good book and just letting go of all the days stress. Hoping to pass this love on to my 3 year old boy and 1 year old lil mama
my boys (2.5 yr twins) love to be read to. i’m currently reading mind in the making, wild things and raising boys! (love your site btw!)
Awesome giveaway! My son LOVES books as do I. We read together every day. This would be a wonderful addition to our bookshelves.
Reading is a way for me to escape from daily stressors while it promotes imagination for my children. We love visiting various places through a book that we otherwise would not be able to explore.
It seems all women have something they have a hard time saying no to while out shopping. My area is books. I firmly believe there is no such thing as too many books. My kids are picking up my love of reading and are always excited when we get new books. These books would be loved by me and my 4 kids.
Reading is recharging! It’s nice to get lost in someone else’s world, even for a few minutes. My son is 2 1/2 and it makes my heart happy when he says “Mommy, you want to read a book?” Of course I do, sweet boy!
What an awesome giveaway, thank you!!! My kids both of them just love to read. Every night they are reading their books, well they think they are anyway, my daughter is almost 5 and my son almost 3. We read to them every night before bed. Some kids bring toys where ever they go, my kids bring books. I am that way too, I read every day on my lunch hour. This would be a great way to read even more books!!!!
My Mom instilled a love of reading in me from a little girl when she would read to me every night. I do the same for my children. Would love to read the books listed here. Thanks!!!!!!!!
I have always been a bookworm. I have so many fond memories from books I have read over the years. I hope to instill that same joy in reading into my boys! <3
Reading is learning, escape, imagination. As a mom of three I don’t have the time I would like to have to spend with a book. But it is one of the most important examples a mom can display for her little ones.
Hello my name is Julie.Mother of 2 boys Gregorio and Ivan (6 and 8 yrs old.) We could really use books in our home. I’m breaking the cycle of our family not graduating and continuing college. Books are the primary source of education. Along with parent involvement. We go frecuently to our nieghborhood library and every year enter the “Readers Are Leaders” program. It woukd be nice to have some books that belong to our home.
Thank You
My two year old loves books! It has always been a favorite, and I love it!
I love reading with my kids, as well as curling up on the couch with my dog and getting lost in a good book! Great offer and incentive to read more during the summer!
Reading is the key to personal success and happiness. Its foundation is in the home.
Reading to me is a way to escape from my normal life for a while and enjoy a fantasy life for a while! I love getting into the characters and possibly finding new things to do with my family! My kids love finding new books to read. My 7 year old loves to read books to me.
Reading is a wonderful way for my child and I to have an adventure together.
I love to read to my daughter! And when I get a chance I love to read myself! What a great giveaway!!
During the end of the school year, my children’s school had an event at Barnes and Noble. My three children went nuts looking for books to purchase that I had to finally put a limit to four each. My one daughter who loves to read had such a hard time picking out the right four. My poor Father sat in a chair with a pile of books that the kids picked out which included their required summer reading (but not part of the 4 limit). We have spent the summer by the pool reading when we are not swimming and you will find a stack of books on the table by the pool. I have loved to read since a I was four years old and it is fun to see my kids enjoying books as much as I did and still do. I am happy they are old enough where I can actually find the time now to enjoy a good book.
reading to my daughter gives me not only joy but a conection between the two of us and then when i have the time to read in my own world it helps me escape all the crazies and learn about some new place or some one new.
I would love to win this! My daughter and I love to read books together!!!
Yes !! My Girls and I read everyday . Reading is our life. We can’t get by the without reading (:
My 2 youngest children completed the summer reading program at our local library and my oldest and myself have both read several books apiece. We’re hoping to get in a few more before school starts.
My two daughters and I visit the library on a weekly basis. Reading for me means quit time at home because they will spend two hours with the books we just picked up. Then pick their favorites for me to read.
I love to read! Reading is knowledge and knowledge is power! I read two books to my kids every night, it sure would be nice to add some new material to our collection!
I am always looking for good books for me and the kids.
i could read to my kids ALL day, no matter the season
) Here in Minot, we spend the majority of 6 months inside the house due to inclimate weather…nothing like curling up with a stack of books to escape -30 degree weather !
Reading is everything! I love to read, but I do have a home of struggling readers. So it is a constant process to encourage my children to read and try to bring to them the joy and wonder that is found in a good book. In being able to read signs, a letter from a loved on, a newspaper….What a true blessing your giveaway is…reading is everything and by this give away your are giving a gift that continues to give!
I would have to say books are as important as food in our family! We read all the time. There are books in every room and in the car and there is no such thing as too many books!
Reading is relaxing to all of us. My children and I like to read at night before we go to bed. It helps wind down the day! It is also learning for us all. We love reading about new things!
I would LOVE to read these books for myself and my children. What greater joy is there than shutting off the TV and curling up with books and your kids????
Reading means so much. It comforts all the emotions and feeds the need for learning and knowledge. Reading is so powerful when it is shared by reading independently, in groups, and with a buddy. Not to mention, writing which goes hand in hand with reading to create these wonderful reading materials available:)
I always encourage my two children (age 7 and 5) to read. It is such a wonderful hobby by letting your imagination soar! As an avid reader myself, I am hoping I set a great example for them!
My son and I both love to read! It takes you away to different worlds and introduces you to so many different types of people. We would be so excited to have more books to devour!!
Reading is the ultimate relaxation tool – better than a massage! As a child, I spent every Saturday in the library – I just love the smell of books and the atmosphere of the library. It always felt like home to me. My favorite book is the dictionary – every time I open it I learn something new – what an adventure! Books are my favorite form of escapism and there is nothing better than sitting in the hot sand, getting lost in a world that’s not your own.
Books are the anti video game!
I understand the importance of reading to your children, and showing them that reading is fun. I have a three-month-old that I read to everyday. However, we only have four books. Right now my voice, my actions throughout each book, and making sure he’s comfortable are what’s important. It’s not about the selecton. However, it would mean the world to me to be able to give him more. One day my son will find enjoyment from reading, and hopefully I’ll find more time to pick up a book for myself:)
Reading for me is a chance to go to a place I have never been before! If I’m reading about Africa I go there and see and feel all of what the authority is talking about,I out myself as an onlooker.I can read 1-5 books and never forget my place, reading is my time to relax, relate, release!!!! I will be a reader until the lord says differently!!!
I am an elementary reading teacher and mother of two children, ages 6 and 1. I have a bit of an addiction to children’s literature! I love getting on the floor with my students and laughing and crying together over a wonderful book. One year I read Where the Red Fern Grows to my students. Of course, there were some tears over this beautiful story. At the end of the school year, one of my more challenging students brought me a gift, two beanie baby pups he named Old Dan and Little Ann. I was able to connect with him through reading and develop a good relationship despite the challenges he often presented. At home, I love reading with my daughters. My oldest is learning how to read, and what a joy it is when she reads to me! My youngest loves to be read to and when she has time alone, she can often be found looking at books and pretending to read them! I would love to update my library at home and school! Thanks for doing this giveaway!!
As a busy mom and grad student, reading to and with my 6 year old daughter each nigh has become our special time. Since before she was born I have been giving her the gift that books bring. We read three stories every night and she still falls asleep in my arms. Despite my incredibly busy schedule, we always make time for each other and books. Additionally, reading anything that is not directly related to my masters degree in social work is a much needed escape from the harsh realities of life which I study. Reading is so important and sharing the love of books with others is something I do often.
I watch my grandsons (age 3 and 17 months). I used to have a crate full of board and picture books for them to read. I love it when they bring me a book and want me to read to them. It is the highlight of my day. I recently had my books damaged by water when my basement flooded. I am slowly rebuilding my small library. I love to find activities do do that relate to the books I read to them. What fun!!
My Mom was always a voracious reader and so, in turn, was I. I want to instill the same thing in my daughter! My Mom always taught me that you can find anything you need to know in books!
Reading is one of my favorite forms of ‘me’ time.
The kids and I have read every single book we own more than once! Mainly because times are hard right now and buying new books has been put aside for the time being. Winning these books would be such a blessing for our family! We all love to read!
I would love to win these books. Growing up I had problems learning to read and had to go to learning disability class and have tutors to help me learn to read. Now, I can’t get enough books in. I love to read, I have two girls and I’m doing my best to teach them to read. The love listening to the stories I read to them, and my oldest and loving the power that reading gives to her. Books are a precious gift the writers have given us.
Reading has always been my favorite activity to do alone once the kids are in bed and with them all day long. I’ve always had a love of books and feel blessed my kids are the same way. Reading is an escape!
Reading for me is an exciting adventure without leaving the house. It’s a warm hug on a cold rainy day. Reading is a grand escape from a somewhat normal life. Reading is learning when you aren’t intending to and laughing out loud when it seems in life there is nothing to laugh about. I love a great book and love that my kids are finding the joy in them too. Happy Reading!
I love books and wish I could get my kids amd grandson to love them too!
Reading is my “timeout”… I do not “go out”, drink etc…. reading is my pleasure!!! I love it and happily so do my children and now my granddaughter!!!
Reading to me is an attitude! Anyone can play video games, but it takes something more to truly love reading! My children and I have been on a summer reading program since the middle of June! My son has gone through almost all the Scooby Doo books at the library and my daughter tries to follow his footsteps in My Little Pony! Books can take you places…without sore fingers!
Reading is special times with the kids and grandkids that we always remember.
I have been a reader since I read my first chapter book, “Ramona Quimby, Age 8″. I read for pleasure, for comfort, when I’m bored and the best when I’m totally swamped with kids and house but can’t put down that book. I’m passing my love of books and reading (hopefully) to my children.
My family and I love reading and the best way to describe what reading means to me is all in a quote by Dr.Suess,
“The more you’ll read, the more you’ll know..
The more you’ll know, the more places you’ll go!”
This is an amazing giveaway!! I am constantly trying to reinforce reading and it’s benefits to my children, by example and by reading out loud every night before bed. However, my son does not care for repeating books, so we are constantly visiting the library, bookstores, etc. to pick up new books!!
Happy Summer Reading
Reading is a mini vacation for me, and the best quality time spent with my daughter.
My son really needs to read more and so do I. Maybe something like this would help that cause
. I love reading just never make the time anymore.
My daughters and I love reading! My oldest is getting ready for kindergarten and already blows everyone away with her reading skills! So proud of her!
Reading expands your world. I have always believed teaching my children to read is the key to everything. No matter the subject, if you’re interested in a topic, there is a book on it. Reading means so much, it is an escape to relax into, a lesson to be learned, new lands and people to explore, new perspectives on life’s challenges. Passing that on to my children is a true gift!
I LOVE to read, I take my kids to the library every week and let them pick out books. My 5 year old that is about to start Kindergarten is starting to be able to read too. I sit and read atleast 10 books a week that we get from the library to them. I also enjoy reading for me because it is my only “me” time I can escape and enjoy the journey the books take me on. I have made it very clear to my children that reading will keep your brain working and is just as enjoyable as watching tv. Thanks for the opportunity in this giveaway!
Reading is relaxing, quiet and very enjoyable. I love reading by myself and I also love reading to my 3 boys. We read with them every night before they go to bed and it’s a great wind down, snuggle up time.
We LOVE books. We are doing 3 reading programs this summer … local library, Barnes & Noble, and HeBuddy.
What a wonderful collection of books! Reading is the all-time favorite indoor activity at my house. I read to each of my three kids every day and it’s a joy to see my six year-old son read to his 3 year-old siblings. I’m sure the 3 year-olds will be early readers – they are desperate to be like their big brother!
My son loves to read! He’s 2 1/2. We have been reading to him since day one. He already has more books than we do combined! Since he has so many at home and I buy them as often as possible I have yet to get him a library card. But I see one in his near future
I am trying to get my little one to sit still long enough to read more. He loves books, but he is a 2 yr old on the move. These books look to cute, for him and me.
Reading is experiencing places and perspectives that you may not encounter during your lifetime. It lets you know that you are part of a much bigger thing.
Reading for me is an escape. It is the one thing I do for me. Travleing to new places and meeting new people in a books pages is heaven for me. My kids have the same love of books. Z 7 is often found curled up reading to himself or to one of his sisters. The girls are trying to read and will listen to stories till I loose my voice.
reading is time for myself, when i am prevented from thinking “wow, i should be doing laundry” or “how should i handle a toddler tantrum at lunch?” meaning- it is a great escape!
Reading should happen everyday, not just in the summertime. My 2 boys, Isiah (age
and Jayden (age 3) have books they read every night before bed. Adding these books to their collection would be a fabulous gift. Literacy is so important, especially where we live in the inner-city Philadelphia. So many kids are failing and we have highschoolers who are illiterate. It’s just so sad. Not only would this gift be good for my boys, but we could get the neighborhood kids in on it too. Good luck to everyone, and keep on reading. xoxoxo
Reading to me means time to escape for myself. I also enjoy reading with my daughter because it gives us time to bond and open new doors for her. I was given the joy of reading from my mom and am happy to pass it along.
Reading to our family is so important. My husband and I read to our 3 children nightly. I love to read myself when I have the extra time. Going to the local library is a fun adventure for us. We believe you can never have enough book. Read on!!!!
Reading is a treat. It’s an escape. It’s an adventure. It’s a way to visit and learn wonderful or horrible new things. It’s essential to living. It can be entertaining, enlightening or life altering. A record of the human experience and our experiences, hopes and dreams. Amazing.
As a former teacher, I know how truly important reading is in regards to all subjects and learning. I am now a stay at home mom of 3 and am proud to have passed on the love of reading to my girls! All summer, we have been regular visitors to our library and it makes me smile when they want to stay up late to finish a book!
Reading means the chance to escape this world for awhile and get lost somewhere totally new. it means giving my son the gift of literacy and knowledge to be successful in life.
Reading, especially from a young age, is key to intelligence. I firmly believe the more you read as a youngster, the more you excel in school.
Reading makes my life complete, without it I would die of boredom!
Reading means a time to connect with your kids. A time for you to see and enjoy one of life’s precious moments. In turn we, as parents, provide our kids with love, support and encouragement; and in time it will give them the gift of litercy and knowledge. Being a single mom, it is my time to show my kids I care and love them through reading.
As a mother and an elementary school teacher, reading is a huge part of my life. I have a love for recreational reading and I try to pass that love on to my students by encouraging them to read many different kinds of printed materials about topics that interest them. The places that reading can take you, without ever having to pack a suitcase are amazing. Helping to foster a love of reading in my children and my students is a true joy for me.
I’m an avid reader & you can always find me with a book or my Kindle nearby. I have 3 children ranging from teen to infant & I’m always looking for something to read with them. I think the love of reading is the best thing you can instill in our children.
We love to read a wide selection of books & I’ve read to each one of my children in the womb & to my oldest daughter when we 1st met (she’s adopted). And now I read to my youngest as well & read the same books as my teenager. It’s a great way to bond & have family time.
As a single mom of 5 adopted kids, this would be a great blessing. We read a lot as a family and individually. Reading has helped with bonding and also to overcome some delays as a result from the bio parent’s use of drugs during pregnancy. Reading is such a good tool for all ages.
I love to read with my kids…it’s such a nice time spent together without T.V. or other interruptions.
Reading is so many things to me. My son is at a great age to where he crawls to the bookshelf, picks a book, and then crawls in my lap. It’s so precious. At night and during naps, I get to read my books. Some fiction, some not. I love learning, getting into a good story, and widening my perspectives of life and living.
with the weather being so hot, we have been reading several hours a day! I love it!
Ah, the joy of reading. Where to start? This is just one of my very favorite ways to spend time. Whether it is reading to my girls, going to the library, curling up with a great book on a comfy chair etc. etc., reading is truly amazing on so many levels.
We would LOVE to win these books!!!! My 3 kids and I love to kick back and read in the summer… We spend lots of quality time @ the library!
This would be a wonderful prize to win!!!
Reading, relaxing, adventure, recharge, excitement, visiting new places, never far from home, time filler, time killer, knowledge, fantasy, time to myself, time with my kids, all of these and so much more.
Reading is an adventure. It’s an opportunity to escape and jump into another location, to try something new, to experience something or somewhere you never have before. I have been reading avidly from the day those letters on the paper became words for me…I was 5. I hope I have passed that love of reading on to my children…….we read together and even as they get older, I will still read aloud to them rather that turn on a television. I share my favorites with them and they do the same in return. Reading is the key to success!
Reading is escape, reading is learning, reading is imagining, reading is joy!
We love to read!! My husband is in the military and so we pass the deployment time plowing through books and making up our own stories. Im a stay at home mother so we have limited funds with which to shop for new books so if we were to win this the books would be loved and appreciated! <3
Reading is so much more than curling up with a book… my little sister remembers me reading Charlottes Web to her when she was just 3 or 4 and she longed to read after that. Now that we’re grown, I love to share books with my 4 girls. I know that the special time we read together is creating memories for them to take with them as they grow up. The adventure through books is a love you’ll never outgrow!
When I was growing up, my mom was a school librarian. I’ll never forget the smell of brand new books, many of which we were priviledged to preview BEFORE the kids at her school got ahold of them. She would read to us every night, even as we were getting older. I read to my youngest son now, and we share great memories. At 5 he is also a great reader himself!
My daughter and I love to read! But sadly, we have not had the opportunity to add any new books to our collections this summer! We would love to win a few new books, they all look great
Our family loves to read!!! We are always looking to add to the bookshelves
Great giveaway!!
My husband, oldest son and I love to read. I am trying to instill that love in my 6 year old. Would love to win this for our family!!!
Reading means the world to me! I love turning the pages of a book and I learn things every day. My imagination is opened and I get lost in the characters and places of the book. It’s a favorite past-time for my children instead of sitting in front of the television.
I have enjoyed reading since I was little and I am so glad that I have been able to pass this joy onto my son. It’s special time for us to bond together and relax before bed. I love watching his imagination at work as he takes in the pictures. It’s the best to see him go to his bookshelf, grab a book and plop himself on his beanbag chair and start “reading” a book. He’s only 2 but he does a pretty darn good job at holding my attention during story time.
My five year old LOVES reading and does it over watching tv (or sometimes, going outside to play…!) We’re hoping to foster the same passion in our newest addition. Thanks for these great giveaways!
Reading is everything. My house is full of books and we think you can never have enough. When my husband and I got married we started buying our favorite kids books for our future children. Now that we have a two year old little boy we read even more. Just say yes to books.
I have been reading for as long as I can remember, so of course I became a librarian!
Books are a passion for me. This is the best give-away I’ve ever seen!
Reading has always been a great escape for me ever since I was a child. I grew up impoverished and reading allowed me to take journeys and broaden my horizons. I remember spending hours in the library picking out books. I now have 2 children of my own and try to instill that love of reading in them.
Reading is the easiest and most rewarding “quality time” to have with your kids.
I love reading and so do my children….It is nice to read and be transformed someplace else…for just a little while…lol
Reading is vital to us year-round, but there is something special about summer reading. With the kids home, we have more time to read and make more frequent trips to the library. I am blessed to have children who love to read, and especially during hot weather like we’ve been having this year, reading is an absolute lifesaver in the summer!
I have been passionate about reading ever since I was little. I grew up on books by Enid Blyton and L M Montgomery. It opened up a whole new world for me and I suspect that’s when wanderlust took root in me. I now have a little girl who has thankfully gained the same love of books. Just last week, at the library, she plonked herself on a chair, opened a book and ‘took in’ the whole ambience. She closed her eyes and sighed ‘library’. When she caught me looking at her, she told me in all seriousness, “I love the library”. Her earnestness was quite a sight to behold! We love books.
I teach English for a living at a middle school, so I know very well how important reading is. I think if kids see their parents reading and are read to by their parents, then they will understand it’s importance. I see kids every day who don’t even have books at home. It makes me so sad. My six year old is an amazing reader, and even my four year old won’t go to sleep without two or more books read. My kids have discovered that there are so many adventures and other worlds to be found in books. I am so glad that they are developing a great love for reading.
I love reading, because it’s a great escape. It brings you to places you never thought you’d go. As for my kids, they are just learning to read and I love that they enjoy finding new books. They are eager to learn to read and that’s wonderful because it really is the most important skill to learn.
I have always been a huge bookworm, and as a homeschooling mom, it is my greatest pleasure to share that love of books with my kids! Reading opens up a whole new world of knowledge and imagination, and as my 5 year old says, it’s just cool.
Reading has always been an outlet for me. I have always been equally at home with a good book as I have being outdoors. Reading outdoors in a hammock – bliss!
What a great giveaway! As a mom of two busy boys reading brings a great relaxation at the end of the day. So happy the boys love their books as well!
Summer happiness is… TV off, sitting at the beach with an iBook, watching the girls dig to China, and every now and then…”Hey Mom. Whatcha reading?”
Reading is awesome. It’s an enjoyable and relaxing activity to do with my kids. I look forward to them being old enough to curl up with a book and get totally engrossed in the story, talking with me about what they think after they finish the book, adding to the story. I like watching my kids gain the skills to tell stories from memory and from pictures, as well as to show their curiosity for what the story might be about before we read a new book. For me, reading lets me jump into another life for awhile and get my imagination going.
To me, reading is my sanity-saver! I need to read in order to feel refreshed and relaxed. I love reading to my kids because it is a special time to snuggle and be together, and hopefully they learn something.
Reading has been so many things to me – at times it’s an escape, it increases my vocabulary with almost every book, it is a companion, it gives me something to do when I’m in a line or waiting at Sonic for my drink!, it is something you can do alone while being with someone who also reads, it’s a conversation starter, etc., etc., etc. Reading has been with me all my life, just like God.
I have always loved to read and have trouble putting a good book down. It is great seeing now how much my children love to read!
Just found a notebook from 5th grade where I kept a short narrative about every book I read that year! It was a full notebook. Hope I get a chance to read these books with my son.
I just found a notebook I wrote in 5th grade that had short narratives from all the books I read that summer and school year. It was completely full! I enjoy sharing my love of reading with my 4 year old.
Reading means; learning. Reading someones thoughts, imagination.
Feeling, believing, learning to let go. Letting someone else take you into
a whole new imagination or reality.
I’ve got very fond memories of summer reading programs at the library when I was young. Nothing makes me happier than watching my son devour books with delight!!
Aw, hell. There’s a new Skippyjon?! Gotta go get it now…(she said in a muy, muy soft voice. *clap-clap!*)
I LOVE to read, it is a great escape from reality!
Reading is – Imagination. Learning. Travel. Dreaming. Discovery. Appreciation. Connection. A blessing!
Love reading! So glad my six year old loves it too!!! Im gonna star my new 9 week old baby as soon as possible!
